Release Division
To qualify for release points
- A shark will qualify for a release after a crew member grabs the leader or the swivel hits the rod tip.
- A shark that is lost at boat-side after the leader has been grabbed may not be considered a “release” if the team’s intention was to boat the fish.
- To be considered for release points, all sharks must be photographed with the camera supplied by the tournament committee. The picture should show the shark in the water with someone holding the leader and displaying the boat number of the proper color for that day. The species of the shark must be identifiable by the photo.
Release point system
- Blue Sharks and Sand Tigers = 1 point each
- Mako, Hammerhead, Tiger = 4 points each
- Thresher = 8 points each
- Great White = 10 points each
- No release points for Dogfish and Atlantic Sharpnose
- Other shark species = 2 points each
Procedures
- After releasing a shark, immediately fill out your release report and call a committee (VHF Channel 72) boat so that they too can record the catch.

- Teams may also use their cellular phones to record releases by calling 410-213-2442 and leave a message including; boat number and name, time of day, anglers name, species, estimated weight.
- A team must turn in their release report at the end of each of their two shark fishing days by 7:00 PM for the releases to be considered.
- By 7:00 PM on their last day of fishing, teams must turn in their release cameras or digital images.
